Project Description
Early Works
1986-1994
This exhibit illuminates connections and conflicts between materials with a physical and sensual presence (slate, marble, wood, wax, and copper) and metaphoric and poetic images, expressing yearning for earlier ages and cultures (a fountain, Renaissance shell tools, Napoleonic cannons). The divides between layers highlight contrasts and dualities between female and male elements, embracing and embraced, confining and confined. Selecting a detail from within the mass of hints and traces creates connections giving images a renewed presence.
